In the Studio

What I paint is not what I write in my journal. In my journal I tend to whine a lot – but my paintings are large paintings of things in dramatic light and in unusual perspective - the real me? The paintings are of huge mountains glowing in a spot light, giant noble trees rising, not just to the sky but to clouds rising, rising to the universe. These visual emotions are spirit manifested in paintings. Yup – there it is, right there! And everyone who cares to see too can see this thing that is but an echo of what’s deep inside me, and in all of us. Recognition is but an echo. Evidently this thing is hidden in ways that are not conscious to me but come out in paintings. I feel weak, depressed, anxious, broken and powerless, but yet paintings of power and beauty come from me. It’s so amazing that the underneath layers are a deeper wellspring. Of truth? As C.S. Lewis says, “The more you go in, the bigger it gets, and finally, you find a whole and spacious universe.”

A New Exhibit

Saving Trees=Saving Ourselves

The American Art Company, 1126 Broadway Plaza, Tacoma, WA 98402 from February 15 to March 19, 2020.

Our environmental crisis is escalating and anger and despair is a contributor to anxiety, divisiveness and depression. Trees and green spaces, especially large trees, freely give megatons of clean air, emotional, mental, spiritual and physical life-giving sustenance but are under constant threat of destruction by developers, institutions, corporations and city governments who mistakenly think all growth is worth cutting down trees. But the earth has reached a tipping point, and we have to realize trees actually save us if we save them. Civic and business entities need to walk the talk. Jannelle and other environmental artists are showing why trees, even urban trees, are the heart of our communities; crucial to our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Trees will save us if we save our trees.
